1. Welding process and performance of Docol® 1200M

Welding parameter optimization

When continuous wave (CW) fiber laser welding 1mm thick Docol® 1200M lap joints, 300W laser power and 0.6m/min welding speed are the optimal parameters, which can obtain pure martensitic welds, the heat affected zone (HAZ) width is controlled at 1100μm, and the tensile shear strength reaches the ideal level. Studies have shown that the welding speed significantly changes the molten pool microstructure by affecting the linear heat input, such as the formation ratio of acicular ferrite or martensite.

2. The key role of the clamping system

The dedicated clamping system directly affects the weld size, geometry and joint strength by optimizing the energy accumulation and heat dissipation path. Reasonable fixture design can reduce welding deformation and ensure the uniformity of martensitic phase transformation

Compared with traditional boron steel, Docol® martensitic steel is superior in strength, ductility, processability and corrosion resistance, and cold forming technology can simplify the production process and reduce energy consumption.
