Hastelloy B-3 Steel Plate

OVERVIEW

B3 Hastelloy plate is a nickel-based high-temperature alloy, mainly composed of nickel, molybdenum, cobalt and other elements, with a nickel content of about 65%. The molybdenum content of about 26-30% greatly enhances the corrosion resistance of B3 Hastelloy in strong reducing acids. The synergistic effect of molybdenum and nickel enables the alloy to remain stable in complex chemical environments.

A small amount of chromium, accounting for only about 1.5%, helps to improve the oxidation resistance of the alloy. Under high temperature conditions, chromium will form a dense oxide film on the surface of the alloy, effectively preventing further oxidation reactions. In addition, the alloy also contains trace elements such as iron, cobalt, tungsten, and manganese. At the same time, the content of impurity elements such as carbon, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur is strictly controlled to ensure the purity and performance stability of the alloy.

Performance characteristics

1. Physical properties

The density of B3 Hastelloy plate is about 9.24g/cm³, and the melting point is 1330 - 1380℃. At different temperatures, the physical properties of B3 Hastelloy plate will change to a certain extent. For example, as the temperature rises, the thermal expansion coefficient of B3 Hastelloy plate will gradually increase, while the elastic modulus will decrease.

2. Mechanical properties

At room temperature, Hastelloy B3 plate has high strength and hardness. Its tensile strength can reach more than 760MPa, its yield strength is about 350MPa, and its elongation is about 30%, showing good plasticity and toughness. In high temperature environment, B3 Hastelloy plate can still maintain good mechanical properties. At 500℃, the tensile strength of B3 Hastelloy plate can still be maintained at about 600MPa, and its creep resistance is also excellent. In the solid solution state, as the heating temperature rises, the tensile strength, yield strength, and elastic modulus decrease, and the elongation and thermal expansion coefficient increase slightly; as the cold deformation rate increases, the hardness, tensile strength, and yield strength increase, and the elongation decreases.

3. Chemical properties

B3 Hastelloy plate performs well in corrosion resistance. B3 Hastelloy plate has excellent corrosion resistance to hydrochloric acid of various concentrations over the entire temperature range. 

In a 20% hydrochloric acid solution at 100°C, the corrosion rate of B3 Hastelloy plate is extremely low and can be used stably for a long time. B3 Hastelloy plate also has good tolerance to other reducing acids such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. In a high-temperature, high-concentration corrosive environment, Hastelloy B3 plate can remain stable and is not prone to overall corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

Especially in reducing acid environments, the corrosion resistance of Hastelloy B3 plate far exceeds that of many other alloys, which makes B3 Hastelloy plate irreplaceable in the treatment of corrosive media in the chemical, petroleum and other industries.

B3 Hastelloy plate can maintain good mechanical properties and chemical stability in high temperature environments, and can operate stably in working conditions at higher temperatures (such as below 800°C)3.

3. Good processing performance

Although B3 Hastelloy plate is harder than austenitic stainless steel and has a significant tendency to work hardening, it can be smoothly cold-processed and hot-processed through reasonable processing technology, such as step-by-step forming and appropriate heat treatment. At the same time, B3 Hastelloy plate has good welding performance, and high-quality welding can be achieved through appropriate welding processes and welding materials.

1. Chemical industry

B3 Hastelloy plates are widely used in the manufacture of various chemical equipment, such as reactors, towers, heat exchangers, pipelines, valves, etc. In chlor-alkali production, B3 Hastelloy plates are used to withstand the corrosion of chlorine-containing media; in sulfuric acid production equipment, B3 Hastelloy plates are used to resist the erosion of sulfuric acid.

2. Petrochemical industry

B3 Hastelloy plates are used to manufacture key equipment such as reactors, distillation towers, heat exchangers, and containers. In the process of oil extraction, it can be used to manufacture key components such as downhole oil pipes and seals to improve the efficiency and safety of oil extraction.
