OVERVIEW

Basic properties and classification

Titanium Grade 9 (UNS R56320) is a near-alpha titanium alloy with a nominal chemical composition of Ti-3Al-2.5V, of which aluminum (Al) content is 2.5–3.5%, vanadium (V) content is 2.0–3.0%, and the rest is titanium (Ti). This alloy is classified as an alpha titanium alloy in the ASTM standard, with weldability and excellent corrosion resistance. Its density is about 4.48g/cm³, which is only 60% of steel, and it has both high strength and lightweight characteristics.

Core performance

1. Corrosion resistance: Excellent performance in humid atmosphere, seawater and nitric acid, outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and uniform corrosion resistance close to N06455 alloy.

2. Thermal stability: Can work for a long time below 139℃, good oxidation resistance; still maintain high strength at medium temperature (450~500℃), better than aluminum alloy.

3. Processing performance: The work hardening is lower than Nitronic33 Kovar alloy, suitable for cold processing, such as pipe manufacturing.

Heat treatment and welding process

1. Heat treatment: Adopt 852~266℃ air cooling quenching and tempering process, the specific parameters need to be specified according to the contract requirements.

2. Welding materials: It is recommended to use high-end duplex stainless steel welding materials, such as ERNiCrMo-8 welding wire (Φ7.5, 9.7.5 and other specifications) and ENiCrMo-2 welding rods, produced in the United States Hastelloy, SMC and Deutsche Nickel

1. Nuclear power industry: as a domestically produced high-wear-resistant stainless steel U-shaped tube for steam generators;

4. Precision manufacturing: jewelry, glasses frames and other lightweight and high-precision products


Comparison with similar materials

Materials with similar composition: Because the main composition is similar to 04Cr13Ni8Mo2Al, some manufacturers call it 1J84, but the creep rupture resistance is weak and it is usually not used for welding copper-nickel-cobalt alloys.

Performance advantages: higher strength compared with industrial pure titanium (TA1-TA3); better processability compared with TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V), suitable for complex molding


Notes

Purchase tips: market prices fluctuate with the market conditions of the day, special specifications need to confirm inventory and customization cycle with suppliers in advance;

Surface treatment: titanium alloy has high chemical activity, and surface oxidation hardening (depth can reach 0.1~0.15mm) should be avoided during processing. It is recommended to perform pickling or grinding later.
